My mixed-media work is investigating memory and place through collage, painting, monotype and cyanotype. I am utilizing abstraction to represent how I visualize memory as well as using personal objects to create an overall feeling of nostalgia for something loved.
Some things cannot be slowed down and yet we find ways to savor memories. I experience memory in a complex and densely layered way. One memory always leads to another, and they become a blend altogether and that is how we remember our life. This is something I aim to show through my work.
To achieve that feeling of memory, love, and gentleness; I layer cyanotype, monotype and acrylic paintings to try to blend together my perceived version of memory. By creating lots of layers, some elements become more hidden than others and really lean into that idea of how a memory might feel or look, especially if it is a distant memory, it would be harder to access the further in time it’s from.
